So i got inspired to use up all my scraps to make a quilt. i just sorta jumped in without a plan but later on when i really got the fever i did some research and discovered early american quilts made by slaves. i relate to that tradition of quilt making more than others because of the general disregard for technical finesse.

This quilt is made out of all natural fibers, cotton, silk, wool. it's lined with an extremely heavy wool blanket. it contains a lot of reproduction civil war calico and wool as well as fabrics that were found on the street, in the garbage and in abandoned houses in pittsburgh. it is %100 hand sewn with the exception of some machine repairs made after i was done quilting it because some of the material is so old that it started deteriorating right away.
it has fooled people into believing that it's antique, one of the side affects of the found materials is that they oozed grime at the first opportunity. the back of the quilt is a very old cotton sheet with various pre-existing repairs and new stains from the dye in the thread and who knows what else.
I worked on this quilt from december 2007 - januray 2008.
